Warring factions continue to threaten the fragile peace that exists between the government and New Force rebels holding the north of the country. Baby steps toward political stability are underway but continued setbacks due to a high level of violent attacks, theft and a deterioration of public health means that travel to this destination is ill-advised.

Toxic waste was dumped in Abidjan in early September 2006, killing several locals and causing health problems for thousands more. Several neighbourhoods are polluted. Travellers are advised to avoid the area and seek medical treatment for any respiratory difficulties or eye/nose irritation.
